Meet Mustafa Abdall
For the past 14 years, Mustafa Abdall has made waves in Rockford, Illinois, as an immigrant liaison, educator, and pillar of the community. Recognized as one of Rockford’s “2020 People to Watch,” Mustafa is known for his generosity- volunteering his time, opening his home, and envisioning a brighter future for Rockford’s vibrant multicultural community. Through his work, he has broken down barriers, opened lines of communication, and helped countless individuals find their footing.
Mustafa’s career spans continents, taking him across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Russia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language, an MBA in Marketing from Capella University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Northern Illinois University. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (EdD), Mustafa’s commitment to lifelong learning reflects his belief in the power of education to transform lives. Fluent in English, Arabic, Russian, Kurdish, Turkish, and Malay, Mustafa’s linguistic skills have been a cornerstone of his work in cultural education and community building.
Over the past 24 years, Mustafa has embraced diverse roles that showcase his adaptability and leadership. He has served as an International Marketing Manager at EBM and CureOntour, a Local Service Analyst at Shell Service Center in Kuala Lumpur, and an International Cultural Adviser for Siemens and Lukoil in the Middle East. In Rockford, his contributions include roles as an International Student Recruiter for Rockford University and Solex College, a Family Support Specialist, a Bilingual Tutor, and an ESL Teacher in Rockford Public Schools. He also served as a Community DIEB Manager with the Rockford Park District, focusing on diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
Mustafa is also an entrepreneur and community advocate. He leads several business initiatives, including Baraka Market, Solutions Business Center (SBC), and District 815, which bring essential services, resources, and economic opportunities to Rockford.
Additionally, he is the founder of the Rockford Refugee Support Program and the Greater Arab Chamber of Commerce, two organizations dedicated to helping refugees and immigrants transition from public assistance to successful business ownership. His efforts have empowered countless individuals to achieve the American Dream, transforming Rockford’s landscape with thriving multicultural businesses.
In the political realm, Mustafa serves as a Rockford Township Trustee and the 3rd Vice President of the Democratic Party, working to represent and uplift the community he loves.
At home, Mustafa’s life is enriched by his loving wife, Sahar, and their two children, Fatma and Hamza. Guided by the philosophy that “IMPOSSIBLE” simply means “I Make it Possible,” he approaches every challenge with determination and creativity. For Mustafa, kindness is a universal language, one he speaks fluently in every aspect of his life.
